Update on National Practitioner Data Bank Requirement

on the radar alert

The National Practitioner Data Base requirement has been revised.

Currently, the standard requires that hospitals query the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) when clinical privileges are initially granted, at the time of renewal of privileges, and when a new privilege(s) is requested.

The revision now states that the organization queries the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) in accordance with law and regulation.

Each organization will need to determine if there is a defined frequency or defined criteria within their state and local laws and regulations.  A great source of information will most likely be your state Medical Board and Department of Health.
