CMS Setting the Bar Higher for Hospital Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Programs

on the radar alert

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is expecting hospital organizations to demonstrate more robustness in their Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Programs.  CMS released QSO-23-09-Hospital in early March to emphasize greater consistency and focus for surveyors during their review of the organization’s efforts to deliver safe, quality patient care and prevent adverse events and patient harm.  Organizations should review the QSO paying close attention to the details in the interpretive guidelines and survey process to ensure alignment.  The document can be found at this link:  https://www.cms.gov/files/document/qso-23-09-hospital.pdf
