This month C&A welcomes two new consultants to our team of dedicated professionals. We are pleased to introduce Lynn Smith and Kimberly Merritt who both bring varied and extensive healthcare backgrounds and experiences.
Lynn Smith, RN, BSN, MBA
Lynn Smith is a Senior Consultant for Courtemanche and Associates. Lynn is responsible for providing onsite consultation for accreditation and regulatory affairs, survey readiness, and related functions. Lynn is a healthcare executive with an exceptional track record of success in directing quality improvement and clinical programs for medical institutions. Skilled in managing hospital and ambulatory operations in today’s complex environment, she knows how to comply with regulatory requirements. Ms. Smith most recently served as a surveyor for The Joint Commission for over ten years. Additional experience in senior leadership across four states, Illinois, Florida, California and Oklahoma included opportunities to direct organizational preparation and facility wide training for successful Joint Commission surveys.
Ms. Smith works with clients to enhance the consulting engagement through formal and informal education of The Joint Commission standards and related regulatory requirements as requested through reference and example. Through incorporation of regulatory requirements into everyday practice, Lynn is able to demonstrate improved compliance and improved patient care outcomes.
Lynn received her diploma of nursing in Iowa City, Iowa, a Bachelor of Nursing Degree from Southern Missionary College and a Master of Business Administration from the Florida Institute of Technology.
Ms. Smith resides in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
Kimberly Merritt, MHA, RN, CNOR
Kimberly Merritt is an Associate Consultant with Courtemanche and Associates. In this role, she is responsible for assessing healthcare organizations’ readiness for licensing, accreditation, and regulatory compliance. Kimberly also assists organizations with post-survey activities and follow-up, patient safety strategies, and quality improvement initiatives. Kimberly has more than 28 years of experience working in varying healthcare positions, most notably serving as a member of the medical team in the U.S. Airforce since 1994. Clinically, Kimberly is a licensed nurse with extensive experience ranging from home health to perioperative services as well as leadership expertise in managing many aspects of healthcare operations. She is trained in the application, teaching, and facilitation of the requirements and recommendations of The Joint Commission, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and other regulatory and accrediting agencies.
Kimberly’s extensive Airforce experience has included administrative oversight of more than 80 personnel, managing a multi-million dollar budget and leading OR activities. She was the lead Airforce representative for Department of Defense perioperative electronic health record development and system evaluation. Kimberly was awarded an Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare (AAAHC) fellowship where she reviewed standards, answered inquiries, participated in board meetings, participated in accreditation activities and updated electronic documentation systems.
Kimberly has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina – Greensboro and a Masters of Healthcare Administration from Seton Hall University in New Jersey. She is a certified Nurse in the Operating Room and has ACLS, BLS and PALS credentials. She has earned numerous awards and is a member of the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN).
