Were You Aware: Newborn Identification

By August 29, 2018C&A Blog

What: The Joint  Commission (TJC) will add a new requirement for newborn identification. This applies to hospitals and critical access hospitals that provide labor & delivery services. The new element of performance will be added to NPSG.01.01.01.

Purpose: To have hospitals/critical access hospitals decrease the number of newborns misidentified prior to care, treatment and services.

Requirement: Use a well-defined method, that includes at least two ways, to properly identify newborns.

When: The new requirement becomes effective January 2019; however, we advise that organizations begin as soon as possible.
