ADDITIONAL DAYS FOR LIFE SAFETY EVALUATION – HOSPITALS
TJC announced that effective January 1, 2018 the process to calculate the number of surveyor days for the Life Safety Evaluation will be revised and all hospital surveys will include a minimum of 2 days for the Life Safety Evaluation. In addition, additional days may be added based upon the new TJC business rules that will calculate the number of survey days for the Life Safety Evaluation upon only the square footage of all inpatient care locations. Historically, the calculation factored in one additional day for every additional inpatient building regardless of the square footage of that building. The September edition of Perspectives indicates that a 1.2 million square foot hospital will generate a three-day Life Safety Evaluation and a 750,000 square foot building will generate two survey days.
